WHICH ARE THE
ADVATATGES AND DISVANTATGES OF SCHOOL UNIFORMS?
All kind of
specialists as psychologists or just specialists on student’s behavior have
spent many years investigating if dressing the same clothes influences the
learning process of children. Nowadays, in some schools it is compulsory the use
of uniforms, normally those ones which are private. Meanwhile in public schools
students can dress as they want. But, let’s compare both view-points. Are
school uniforms a favorable, a harmful, or just an indifferent piece of the
educational system?
One advantage of
school uniforms is the capacity of avoiding or reducing conflicts related with
how much money does each family spend in shopping clothes just for going to school.
I mean that students can’t judge the rest just looking on the superficial appearance.
Moreover, uniforms
cause a much more polite and sophisticated image of students. That’s great for
schools because in student’s meetings it’s rather important to cause a trendy
impression to the rest. It’s a useful business tool for telling parents: Hey! Register
your children here! We are better than other schools!
Besides, there are
also many of arguments against school uniforms. Girls and boys need to express themselves
by dressing their personal trends. Colors, patterns, sizes, materials…
Scientists agree that diversity is closely related in personalities.
Furthermore, some
students feel uncomfortable wearing a necklace or just a long skirt. In fact,
uniforms use to be too much formal for kids among six o for-teen years old, who
surely prefer a comfortable track-suite more than a serious suit.
Just in conclusion, I
would say that I feel lucky to have gone to the public and humble school of
my village, where everybody was able to dress whatever they want to. In
reference with my identity, I would have felt prisoner wearing those too smart
uniforms! I wouldn’t dress up just for the everyday in school. What would life
be without my wide and comfortable sweatshirts?
