THOMAS EDISON

Thomas Edison.jpg
Thomas Edison was born in the state of Ohio U.S. in 1847. Early in his life, he moved with his family to Michigan. When he was 13, he became deaf and because of this he started to read about physics, chemistry, electricity... In 1862, he saves the son of a telegrapher which teaches him about the Morse code. Learning about the telegraph was the beginning of his career as an inventor and businessman.

Later, in 1869 he moved to New York and he rented a room in the Wall Street. One day he helped an engineer to repair a machine and he became the engineer helper. Afterwards, he creates the «Edison Universal Stock Printer». Society that sells some time later for 40.000$, and with this big amount of money he creates his industrial empire “Menlo Park” in which worked 60 Scientifics and they developed to 400 patents. The most famous inventions he developed with his company are: the phonograph in 1877 which recorded and re-played the 2 last minutes of use. In 1879 he developed the electric bulb with a strand of bamboo inside. But later in 1881 he patented with Joseph V. Nicols the bulb with a strand o carbon inside. In 1882 he founded the first power producer. Finally, he developed the first alkaline battery.

Maybe Edison didn’t invent all the things he patented, but it’s clear that his intelligence of science and business were the key to discover all this incredible things. He finally died in 1931 in Nova Jersey with 1093 patents. I think that he is an example to follow and do the same as him: Help to the development of our society.

Thomas Alva Edison: “I will give electricity so cheap that only the rich will be able to afford the luxury of using candles.”
