FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the 32nd President of the United States of America, he was the president of the United States for more than ten years and he is one of the most remembered presidents of the history of this country.

Franklin Roosevelt was born the 30 of January of 1882, in a village called Hyde Park located in the east cost of the United States. He grew up in a traditional American upper class family. The Roosevelt family had always been related with politics; in fact another President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, was a member of Franklin Roosevelt’s family. While he was a child he used to travel to Europe, there he learnt French and Germany. He was a very good student and he got graduated in law for Harvard University. He got married in 1905 with Eleanor Roosevelt, just a year before he got graduated, and they got six children: Anna, James, Franklin, Eliot, Franklin Delano Junior and John.

In 1908 he began working with Ledyard and Milburn, a prestigious Wall Street company, where he exercised mainly corporate law. His political career started in 1910 when he was elected as a member of New York senate for the Democratic Party. From 1910 to 1933 he advanced in the politics world, during this period he was Assistant secretary of the navy and the 44th governor of the state of New York. The 4th of March of 1933 he was elected the President of the United States for the first time. During his presidency he introduced the “New Deal”, which turned USA in a Welfare State, the first one in the history, and helped the United States to overcome the crisis. He also worked closely to the British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and the URSS leader Joseph Stalin, in order to fight against the fascism in the Second World War.  He had been re-elected four times, and he governed for twelve years until he died the 12 of April of 1945.

He died because of the polio, an illness which he contracted while he was on vacation in 1921. Although he couldn’t walk, hi fight over his illness and succeed in politics, being one of the most important persons in the last century. In my opinion Franklin Roosevelt was an excellent person, who should be remembered for many facts, but mainly for his fight against polio and because he was the person who introduced the New Deal, which was a relief for the unemployed and poor people and the recovery of the economy. In conclusion, Franklin Roosevelt is one of my role models.
