What are the advantages and disadvantages of school uniforms?

Since some teachers and parents had the idea of setting a rule for all the students to wear uniforms in school, it has started a debate. Most students disagree, but before taking a stand we should see some advantages and disadvantages of wearing a uniform.   

The strongest reason why school uniforms are a good idea is that they promote equality. Wearing uniforms makes everybody looks the same so it reduces bulling. With all students dressed alike, they will not judge others for what they wear. Moveover, uniforms stop people feeling like they have to buy and wear expensive clothes when they go to school. In addition, wearing uniforms is safer when going outside the school on trips and excursions since students are more easly identifiable when they are dressed all the same.

However, there is also a bad side of all that. Uniforms’ design is usually boring, too formal, uncomfortable and old-fashioned. Teachers could ask the students for designing a uniform they would like to wear, in order to help them to show their creativity. On the other hand, contrary to popular belief, even with uniforms on, certain children will get picked on by others for their appearance.

Therefore, my position is neutral since there are lots of advantages and disadvantages of using school uniforms. I think teachers and parents should let students decide if they want to wear them or not.
